Today we have some juicy gossip about the Salem witch trials. If you don’t know how Salem witch trials, here’s how it goes. Basically one person accuses someone else of being a filthy witch, whoever was accused then goes to court for a trial.
During the trial the judge interrogates the accused by asking a plethora of questions. It’s like the game 20 questions but more intense. While the judge does this the accused is pleading that they are innocent. But we don’t know whose lying and who was telling the truth. If you didn’t know, John Proctor was accused for being involved with witchcraft!
At this
point people were having a little controversy on how the witch trials are ran.
Parris even claimed that there are rumors about a rebellion against the witch
trials in Andover! But enough about rumors we have solid evidence. We had
respected members whom have their different opinions about the witch trials. “I
come to do the Devil’s work. I come to counsel Christians they should belie
themselves.” ( 131 & 132). Can you guess who said this? Why Reverend Hale
of course! During the trials he thought that Proctor and Rebecca were innocent.
Hale was trying to postpone the hangings so the accused could confess, he
mostly did this for Proctor and Rebecca. “I should hang ten thousand that dared
to rise against the law.” ( 128 & 129). Those words were from good old
Danforth himself! Danforth did not believe in witchcraft but he thought his
authority was important so he needs to be in charge and continue this act.
Now
we know what’s really going inside the Salem witch trials. Not everyone agrees
with the witch trials. I know what you’re thinking. How on earth did we get all
this information? We eavesdropped on their conversation during the day they
were discussing the hangings. We had to get scoop on what was happening behind
the scenes because everything isn’t always so happy go lucky when it comes to
witch trials. Remember everything you see could be a lie and would you know?
